As the fall season approaches, it is time to take steps to check things off the home maintenance to-do list. It is that time of the year when people are looking to close out summer and gear up for the winter months. Increased rain, cooler temperatures and snowfall can adversely impact the state of your home. With that said, here is a look at three home maintenance tasks to tackle now.
Get your heating and cooling system serviced
Since the days are going to get cooler, you would want to make sure that your heating system can keep the house warm. For this reason, you would need the services of a qualified HVAC professional who can inspect and service the HVAC system installed in the premises. These professionals are capable of checking the unit for any leakage, testing the furnace burner, switches and thermostat, and testing the safety controls to prevent fires.
Have the roof inspected and repaired
As you are more likely to face inclement weather this season, you must have the roof regularly inspected for any damages or leaks. The chimney particularly requires attention as leaks are typically found around chimneys. It is also a good idea to inspect the chimney from the outside. Use a ladder to climb up the roof and sweep away any debris to avoid any snow or water build up. If climbing up the roof sounds like an ordeal, try to examine the condition using binoculars from the ground.
Check the fire extinguishers
You need to have a number of ABC rated fire extinguishers which are within easy access of the fireplace and the kitchen stove. Inspect them to make sure they are not blocked by the furniture or any other objects in the house. Examine the pull pin to make sure the tamper seal is still intact. In addition, make sure that there are no signs of corrosion, dust or rust.
Hopefully, these home maintenance tasks to tackle in fall should help you gear up for a challenging period ahead.
